Stored paper products need protection from sunlight, airborne pollutants, innate acids, vermin, accidental spills, crimping and tearing. That’s a lot of issues to address by any standard. One of the more important elements to consider is what type of storage container to use for your paper ephemera. Storage boxes should be made specifically for your collectible, so unnecessary movement doesn’t cause corner and edge damage. The container should be opaque to keep out sunlight and if possible, buffered to keep out migrating acids. Sheet Music We have storage boxes for small and large sheet music. Store sheet music vertically or horizontally. The first box featured is the Blue-Gray 60pt Barrier Board Box with a white lining, for horizontal storage. The material is lignin-free and acid-free with a pH of 8.0-9.0 and a 3% calcium carbonate buffer. Boxes have metal reinforced corners for stacking strength. The second style of box is made from acid-free corrugated polypropylene. This material is water resistant. If storing vertically, use an acid-free backing as a stiffener and an acid blocker. Click on the link to see both styles.Newspaper Newspapers were made in many different sizes over the years. We stock three different sizes of boxes made from three different types of archival board. Newspapers are exceptionally vulnerable to breaking down quickly due to acid in the paper used for newsprint. All three of the styles are buffered with calcium carbonate to keep out migrating acids as well as acid-free which potentially will absorb acids in the paper and neutralize it.Magazines Magazine sizes have stayed fairly consistent over the years and are generally made of better grades of material than newspapers. Our boxes come in standard magazine size and Life Magazine size. We stock storage boxes for standard magazines in two different materials. The first box featured is the Blue-Gray acid-free, lignin-free, sturdy B-Flute corrugated material. The boxes are buffered with a 3% calcium carbonate buffer, which prevents acids from reaching the contents. The second style of box is made from acid-free corrugated polypropylene. This material is water resistant. Use an acid-free backing as a stiffener and an acid blocker. They are made from acid-free, lignin-free, B-Flute corrugated cardboard. They have a pH of 8.0-9.0 and have a 3% calcium carbonate buffer. They come in two sizes and have handle holes. The full-size box holds both letter and legal sized documents.
