We certainly won’t condone raiding your grandparent’s record cabinet, or destroying records, but this IS an interesting idea. It does give some insight to what exactly 78’s are made of. For the record, pun intended, shellac is available at your local Ace Hardware store. We would rather see you preserve history than destroy it, but if you are into DIY and have broken 78s lying around, this project might be for you.

Next time you’re working on a project that needs a durable wood finish, don’t grab the polyurethane. Follow [Victor Ola’s] advice and raid your grandparent’s record cabinet for some old 78 records. Modern records are made from vinyl. The stiff, brittle old 78’s from the 1960’s and earlier were made from shellac.

We know you won’t destroy any 78 Picture Discs! We have circular frames for them. Click on the link to view. https://www.bagsunlimited.com/category/440/78-rpm-frames
