the collection and study of postage stamps.
Philately isn’t a word you hear every day, at least not in normal conversation unless of course you work at the post office, a museum, or are in the hobby of stamp collecting. We here at Bags Unlimited certainly have our fair share of cool stamps in the archives, but for many, it’s more than just collecting stamps because they have cool art on them. Stamps allow us to see into the past, and help tell the story of the growth of our country.
This month Smithsonian Insider shared one of our favorite stamps from 2000 based on one of the highest grossing movies of all time ‘Jurassic Park’. It’s a great reminder as to why we love collecting stamps so much. Looking through the Smithsonian Archives is always a treat. We wish we lived closer so we could visit the museum more often.
If you love stamps as much as we do and cant make it to Washing DC, the next best thing is to view some of their archives by visiting Arago and especially the Smithsonian Object Spotlight section which has an incredible amount of very cool Postal stuff.
The Smithsonian’s National Postal Museum is dedicated to the preservation, study and presentation of postal history and philately.
