The first edition of a book is the first commercially distributed version of a book, which also refers to the first printing of that work.
To identify the first edition often publishers state “first edition” or “first printing” on the copyright page. A different method is often identification in the number line which is a line of numbers on the copyright page. If a one is present in the line than it is a first edition.
